Truthfulness

February 25, 2018 Speaker: Kevin Deyette Series: Sermon on the Mount

Passage: Matthew 5:33–37

Title: Truthfulness
Text: Matthew 5:33-37

Notes:

Lie:

  1. False Statement made with the intent to deceive.
  2. Something intended to convey a false impression.
  3. Inaccurate or false statement.

Radical truthfulness and integrity are foundations of the Christian life.

“I always try to be truthful, but at the same time I tell a great many ‘petty’ lies. Where I am more often wrong is in pretending to hear things I do not, especially jokes and good stories, the point of which I missed. But seeing everyone laugh, I laugh too for the sake of not looking a fool. My respect for the world’s opinion is my greatest stumbling block.” -George Macdonald.

Whose approval are you most concerned with?

Nothing destroys your testimony quicker than deceit and breaking your commitments.
